Obsession alert: Mason Jars

I've said it before and I'll say it again... I have a massive obsession with Mason Jars. I think I've always liked them, but it really started after I bought just about every store out of them last year between Reagan's birthday and Christmas! I love them. And here are some great ideas on how to use them... as if I needed more fuel for my fire!

I love all of these ideas, and I had to throw my own picture into the mix (you'll know which one it is... bad lighting, and all... haha!). Did you know you could do ALL this with a Mason jar?! I know I will be using many of these ideas soon... very, very soon!!

Salad in a Jar
This would be so cool for an intimate brunch/lunch as well.

Flowers in a Jar
Where to start?! My fave flowers in my fave vases, hanging from my fave new textile - twine!! Perfection!!

Mason Jar Pincushion
Must.do.this.now!! I'm always on the search for a cute pincushion and how much more perfect could this be - it offers storage as well! Great and easy tutorial!

Chalkboard Paint Jar
Yep... she's a genius!! Perfect for your playroom, classroom, craft room... anything! And you can ever buy chalkboard paint in various colors - the sky is the limit here!

Jars as Decorated Drinking Glasses
I got this fabulous idea from Jessica over at Party Box Design. It's too perfect!! I'll be using it again this year, so watch out!!

Pasta Salad in a Jar
Stunning! What a great vintage flair for any party. Love this idea!! The recipe looks amazing too... just sayin'!

Rainbow Cake in a Jar
Babble - by Brooke McLay
Why yes... I died and went to Heaven when I saw this!! Directions on how to make it included... see you later!!

Floating Candles in a Jar
These lovely beauties are from a wedding reception - sure wish I'd thought of that!!

Cookies in a Jar
How can you not include these amazing cuties from the lovely Bakerella herself?! Perfection in a jar...!

Party Inspiration Board: Artichoke and Asparagus (Dinner Party)

Did you miss me?! I've been MIA for a week and half! A week and a half!!! I'm SO sorry! I was busy though... LOL. We celebrated my husbands birthday at the end of last week and over the long holiday weekend, so we were out of town for 4 days. Then Wednesday I bought a new computer and spent some time getting all my files and programs moved over. So... that brings me to today!

The best news of this all is that I have a NEW great post for you! I love, love, love dinner parties. I wish I could have one every week, but that's not exactly realistic, is it?! LOL... My favorite things about dinner parties are cooking for my friends, decorating my table and having a wonderful time over great food and drinks. Who wouldn't like that?! I've found some amazing inspiration for a chic summer party for you and a few friends... I'm excited to share this with you and I'm searching for somebody to come and let me cook all of this for them! LOL... Here ya go!

Artichoke and Asparagus Dinner Party

• A simple table setting says so much more than a massive heap of miscellaneous items. I am obsessed with white dishes. I think they are essential in any kitchen. When Kyle and I married, I refused to register for fine china. To me, it is so expensive and I didn't want to end up with random pieces and have to try to finish off my collection. I am also not a fan of china cabinets, so I didn't know where to store all of that china. We registered for everyday place settings and a ton of white serveware from pasta bowls to serving platters. Over the years I've continuously added to my white collection. I was drawn to this particular picture, not only for the white dishes but the artichoke as well. Artichokes are another thing I have an odd obsession with. I don't have random stone artichokes in my home, but I probably could... easily! I took about 800 pictures of artichoke wrought iron fences in New Orleans. ♥

• I love the idea of multiple small flower arrangements. We have a large square barstool height table so the middle of the table gets lost a lot. It really needs something with girth to make a difference, so multiple smaller objects fit my niche. I also love the different types of flowers used and the colors, of course! White roses are stunning when they are that full and healthy and the dark leaves are so perfect. I believe the purple flowers are Iris, but could totally be wrong and of course the green is hydrangea. I also adore the wrapping inside the vase to hide the stems and provide more color.

• How amazing do those balsamic roasted fingerling potatoes look?! We were served fingerling potatoes at my best friends wedding rehearsal dinner and I fell in love. So yummy and the colors make such a wonderful presentation.

Photo and recipe courtesy of: Cooking On The Side

• I love artichoke dip but i didn't want to give you spinach artichoke dip, which is a great standby but overdone! Here is a wonderful and healthy alternative. It can be served with veggies or crackers... oh I bet it would be yummy with bagel crisps. It is almost like a hummus and is not only vegetarian but vegan! It looks amazing!!

Photo and recipe courtesy of: My Man's Belly

• Roasted veggies of any sort are always a wonderful addition to a dinner party... they can be done in advance, the roasting gives the veggies a brilliant color and the smallest amount of seasoning provides a robust flavor. Adding thinly sliced prosciutto to roasted veggies should be a sin... it is SO delicious! And prosciutto on asparagus?! Oh... my... HEAVEN!

Photo and recipe courtesy of: My Gourmet Connection

• How genius is a martini bar?! What better way to cater to the drink tastes of all of your guests?! The large decanters are filled with vodka, vermouth and soda water. They provided "dirty water" which I assume is olive juice of some sort. Then, they provided a variety of garnishes: traditional olives, cucumbers and lemon. I must say - the idea is PURE GENIUS! I would totally do this for a dinner party. And to give you some additional ideas... Ill brush you up on martini lingo a little: a gin martini with soda and citrus is a martini with a twist; a vodka martini with olive juice and garnished with olives is a dirty martini; a gin and vermouth martini with a cocktail onion is a Gibson. Of course there are MANY more variations of martinis... and for this dinner party you could also add some pickled asparagus to the garnish station.

Photo courtesy of: Sunday Suppers as seen in Martha Stewart Living

• Dessert is so important when hosting a dinner party. Your party is not complete without serving your guests dessert. So often I wish I had a cappuccino maker, but coffee is the best I can offer, ha! However, now... I can offer THIS! It looks delicious! The up side to this recipe is it is so devilishly simple but it looks like it took ages to make! I will be making this VERY soon!

Photo and recipe courtesy of: McCormick

• This crostini recipe is to die for... ricotta cheese, cream cheese, smoked salmon... asparagus... what more could you want?! This looks delightful and such a wonderful appetizer to carry on the asparagus theme.

Photo and recipe courtesy of: Yum Sugar

• Serve these crab cakes as your main entrée. I would plate these with the prosciutto wrapped asparagus and the fingerling potatoes for the main course. There are so many crab cake recipes out there, but I chose this one because the roasted red pepper aioli sounds so amazing.

Photo and recipe courtesy of: My Recipes

• I know this made for two floral arrangements, but hey... this one could go in the entry way or on your bar! I love this because of the deep purple in the hydrangeas but I also love the presentation in the vase and I REALLY think that you could line that vase with asparagus spears to flow with the theme more.

• This drink had me the moment I saw it... then, I saw the name! The Black Swan! Although, I've also seen it called the Seductive Swan. What's a name anyway, eh?! This is made with vodka, blackberries and lemonade. You could add the instructions to make this to the end of your martini bar... since you already have the vodka out, you know!

Photo and recipe courtesy of: Entre Nous

• Shrimp are always a welcome sight at a party! These are gorgeous on the rosemary sprigs and they look absolutely delicious. They are first marinated and then steamed before being placed on the skewers. And the dip... oh, I'd eat that on a spoon by itself! YUMMY!

Photo and recipe courtesy of: Tasty Stuffs MN

• The perfect steamed artichoke... is that an elusive item in your home?! It is in mine! I have wanted to LOVE steamed artichoke my whole life. Wanted to... When I was in fourth grade my friends mom ate artichokes every Friday night. She would steam then and then dip the leaves in mayo. I would sit and watch her eat those leaves and pray that someday my mother might find that exotic veggie somewhere on this earth. Obviously, I wasn't very aware of the grocery store produce department! So... I went home one day after a sleep over and gushed to my mom about how I was craving this amazing veggie and would she PLEASE buy one and make it for me. I was the kid who ate brussels sprouts, so this wasn't shocking. She came home with one, steamed it, sat it in front of me with a bowl of mayo and I went to tasting... and immediately spitting!!! I HATED IT!!! I've come a long way since then... and I may just have to make this for myself this weekend!

Photo and recipe courtesy of: Summer Tomato

• And now we've hit the prized gem of this collection! HOW ADORABLE ARE THOSE CANDLES?! The artichokes are hollowed out and a small votive or tea light candle was placed inside. The candles are surrounded by asparagus and green beans, although I am partial to the asparagus!! The best thing about this is the site offers a GREAT DIY that even your kiddos could help you with! And to top it off... how perfect is that great dark purple ribbon?! ♥ ♥ ♥

• This wreath from a Bowl Full of Lemons is absolutely stunning... although I have to admit I don't know what it is made from?! It just reminds me of an artichoke and I love that! GORGEOUS!

Photo courtesy of: A Bowl Full of Lemons

I hope this Inspiration Board made you as happy as it made me! I wanted something out of the box but elegant and traditional. The colors are perfection in my mind and the food looks amazing. I want to throw this party myself!! Maybe someday, I will?!

I'll leave you with the menu I would have for this party as well. The food was interspersed with the decor, so it may seem muddled!

4th of July Party Inspiration

I started off researching to do an inspiration board and then there was just SO much and so many great things to say about it all... so I'm going to do it as a feature. These pictures come from all over, so make sure you pay attention to the text below the picture that give you a link to the photo's owner. Some of these have great tutorials too!

The 4th of July is so special for many different reasons and it remains one of the few holidays where we gather with our loved ones to celebrate year in and year out. Here are some FABULOUS ideas on how to make that family gathering a little more special this year and bring so many smiles to the faces of those you love! Make sure you look for something special from ME at the bottom of the post!

First up - a stellar invitation!

Tiny Prints

Who can resist an amazing invitation?! Not me!! I have a massive obsession with printed invites... printed on nice textured paper, with rich colors and that hot-off-the-press smell! Love it!! These are so gorgeous... simple, yet elegant... modern, yet truly traditional (since what holds more tradition than a countries flag?!).

Let's talk about food... well, let's talk about dessert! Who care about the food, when there is sugar to be served, right?! Here are some absolutely awesome dessert ideas for your 4th of July bash!

All Recipes

This is just a picture, no recipe, although it is from a recipe site...?? But OK... These would not be terribly hard to make... what would be somewhat difficult is getting them to actually look like THAT - they're kinda like totally perfect! I would imagine much time went into the drying and dipping process. I would say to skewer each strawberry through the stem, but be careful not to disrupt the leaves, since that is part of the beauty. I would dip it 2/3 of the way in white chocolate and then dip 1/3 into the blue sprinkles... but BE CAREFUL! Then, personally... I'd let them dry while holding the skewer... attention to detail is never a bad thing, I promise! Then, I'd probably place the open end of the skewer into some styrofoam to dry more... after the chocolate was set enough to not drip. But, that's just what I'd do! If you set them down too soon, you'll get a mound of chocolate at the base, and while they may taste the same, they will not look the same and what is this without it's amazing clean lines. I'm severely OCD, remember?! :0)

Cupcakes Kisses 'n' Crumbs

Another amazing way to do chocolate covered strawberries! And look at the detail on the striped ones!! But as much as that detail is SO cute... those totally star covered ones have me DROOLING!! I'm a huge fan of soft and crunchy textures mixed and that looks like total perfection! So cute. Totally love the mix of sophisticated and hip. When my husband saw these he immediately said "Oh!!! Look at THOSE!" Husband approval = HUGE props!

More strawberries... because... well, because, why not?! Strawberries are delish and oh are they beautiful when they are in season. Oh, and they are red, an essential component in a 4th of July party... so, yes... more strawberries! These are sinful looking... and if you read the recipe it gives instructions on how to add some champagne to the cream. Did you hear me?! Strawberries and champagne!! Put the kids to bed... and take these bad boys out of the fridge! I bet they taste even MORE delicious than they look... I sure bet they do...

Pink Cake Box and Jessicakes

I'm a big believer in gorgeous cakes. Love me some cake... and I also love making cakes. I actually used to make cakes and sell them from my home. When we moved into our new house, our oven could not and would not bake a cake. Now, two years later it is finally calibrated properly and I'm baking again! That makes me a happy girl!! These cakes are gorgeous and would be a perfect addition to your 4th party!

AndersRuff

I am in love with these cupcakes from the original simplicity (white icing) to the pinwheels! What I truly love hits back on the simplicity... I love the white icing with the white cupcake wrapper but the added touch of the printable gives just enough color and pop to make a real statement. And hello?! Who doesn't love pinwheels?! These are also a new HOT TREND in the party world. This picture was my very-hard-to-choose favorite from this AndersRuff feature over at Hostess with the Mostess. And... for a limited time, all of the printables in this feature are 50% OFF in the AndersRuff Etsy shop. Awesome printables collection!!

Living Locurto

So, Amy over at Living Locurto made these amazing gems of a treat! Aren't they presh?! She made a comment about not being able to serve her children something out of a box so she came up with this... well, Amy! You hit the nail on the head! This is exceptionally semi-homemade. It took her no time at all to make these guys and they look fantabulous! Talk about drab-to-fab in 0 to 60!! I see many, many uses for these in my very near future! Gracias Amy!!

Velvet Cream Bakery

I found many super cute pictures of cake pops. Know what made me pick these...?? C'mon... you can guess it... I've said it a million times. No, it's not the ribbon, although, that is delightful! What was that? Yep... you got it! The MASON JAR!! I'm obsessed. I bought umpteen hundred of them for Reagan's 3rd birthday and I use them constantly... Love me some Mason Jars!

Cupcakes Take the Cake

Originally, I was just going to showcase the marshmallows in this picture... which CTTC gives an awesome tutorial with great pictures for. But the rest of these kabobs were just TOO cute to resist! These are too cute for words!!

Twig & Thistle

Simple. These are perfectly simple. If you've ever made Rice Crispy Treats... then you can make these! And in my opinion... the most important part of this dessert is the ribbon. Anybody can make these treats and tie on a ribbon... it's simple! But oh man, is it gorgeous!!

Sweets Indeed

Yes folks... those are DONUTS! How insanely creative and heart stopping are THOSE?! The strawberries are coated in maybe a simple sugar, slightly boiled? I can't truly tell... but wow... they look amazing! In fact, the entire post over at Sweets Indeed is absolutely stunning. It is beyond words - check it out!

Glorious Treats

I don't like Jell-O but I would eat THAT just to be able to say I ate it! Do you see how that can be so bad for my hips?! These are really cute and Glory gives great tips on how to make these. Plus... you have to check out her amazing sugar cookies while you're over there. AH-mazing!!!

Let's move on to drinks...

Be Different, Act Normal via Martha Stewart

Lorie over at Be Different found this amazing picture on Martha Stewart's site, but was unable to find any info for it. So the credit goes to Ms. Martha... but Lorie poses a serious question... with an answer I wouldn't have guessed. What is the star made of? Her answer: jicama. I originally thought it was coconut, but as I don't eat raw coconut and have never even attempted to cut one (I need to remedy that), I am not sure that you can even cut coconut like that?? Anyway... I am in love with that stirrer and that is what matters!

My Recipes

This recipe is for FRESH Raspberry Lemonade, which in and of itself would make my tastebuds VERY happy! But look at the rims on those glasses... colored sugar!!! AHHH!!! I love making drinks from fresh ingredients, especially fruity drinks. It is such a pleasing and refreshing change from powdered mixes. I believe the stars are made from pineapple but the recipe doesn't say.

Now... on to decor :0)

BlueMoon Studios

I am a true believer in bunting and/or banners. I think they add SO much to an event and there are so many ways to use them. They add color and texture and personality and man can they POP when used correctly! There are so many different shapes and textiles you can use and I ♥ ♥ ♥ fabric bunting! These are SO easy to make if you have a sewing machine. And I would bet they are still decently easy if you prefer to hand stitch, although more time consuming. I love the different pattern choices in this particular bunting - polkas to stripes to plain and nice!

All You

These are adorable! What a great way to display the colors, flags and I love the vases being identical with the exception of size. These are gumballs!!

Make and Takes

This is another spin on the above idea. I love the simplicity of the first idea, but I love the paper crafting in this picture. Plus, there is a tutorial to make these great "lollies" on the Make and Takes site. You can also make these to place on hats or pins... so cute!!

Martha Stewart

GORGEOUS! Of course it is straight from Martha herself...!! I love everything about this from the red, white and blue star patterned table cloth to the organza runner and oh, how cute are those napkin holders?! I love set tables... they are perfection!

{It's A Muegge Life}

Of course I couldn't do a 4th of July feature without including my very own Tulle Wreath Tutorial! If you've not seen this, check it out! I've provided you with a step-by-step tutorial with helpful hints and even some tips on where to find the supplies! It is so easy, so worth your time and SO stunning!!

And lastly... what 4th of July party could go off without sparklers?!

Print Your Party

Ahhhhhh!! I've seen these adorable sparkler holders a lot lately, but what better use of sparklers than Independence Day?! These are so cute, and such a great way to display the sparklers... bet you won't forget them this year! By the way... small fact about me... I'm deathly afraid of sparklers, ha! I thought maybe it was just a childhood fear, but last year my cousin had these at her wedding and I tried hard to participate but before they could light mine, I had to hand them off and LEAVE the premise! I have a very severe fear of fire, so I guess this plays into that. So sad because they are really fun and minimally dangerous, ha!

Also, I told you I'd have a surprise for you at the bottom... well, here it is! My very first attempt at subway art!! This will fit any frame up to 8x10. I hope you print it and enjoy it - if you do, send me a picture!! I'd love to see what you do with it!

You can also find a .pdf download of this file here: 4th of July Subway Art - {It's A Muegge Life}

Hope you all have a happy 4th! ♥ ♥ ♥

Party Inspiration Board: Surf's Up (Boy Birthday)

Surf's Up Party Inspiration Board

I'm really excited to bring you this Surf's Up party board... I was having a hard time thinking of a good boy party that didn't use a character and when surfing popped into my mind, I flew with it and never looked back!! I also love these colors for any boy, no matter what age. This will work for toddlers, tweens, teens and then some. I hope you enjoy this board and are able to use the ideas from it. Of course... planning for a boy is SO different than planning for a girl. It seems like the party industry just caters to girliness, so this was a challenge for me and it may explain why you don't see my typical femininity.

I'm going to start from the top left corner and work my way right and down.

Surf Shack Sign - What a way to set the mood?! Place this at your front door, at your back door, on a stake at the beach if that's your venue, hang it from the table... you name it, this sign can go there. And how perfect is it for this party?! The sign measures 22" x 12" and can be purchased for $27.50.

Photo courtesy of: Bungalow Beach Designs

Surf Board Thank You Notes - Thank You notes are still essential party needs... and as your child gets older it's important that you try to let them write their own notes. Depending on their age, this may mean writing their own name or penning the entire note alone. These Thank You's are so cute, simple and perfect for this party. This is also a great DIY opportunity... a little homemade goes a LONG way, especially when you're saying "thanks," it makes it that much more genuine. If you're not up for making these, you can order them from etsy.com.

Gummy Sharks - What Surf Party is complete without the ever present shark?! I'm not sure that I'd suggest playing Jaws in the background, but... sharks are always uber cool to boys and totally necessary for a Surf's Up party theme! These Gummy Sharks are so useful - you can have them in a nice container such as this, you can float them in drinks, you can add them to mini cupcakes. Look for another use further down...

Photo courtesy of: Green Wedding Shoes

Fish Shaped Sandwiches - Um, yes please! I'm ALL about shaped sandwiches! And to start with, sandwiches are SO versatile... I mean, you can please just about anybody with a sandwich... ham and cheese for the kiddos, chicken salad for the moms, and the dads... well, we all know they eat anything!! ;) For this theme, you could mix it up even... ham and cheese sharks, chicken salad surf boards, turkey and swiss fish... so many options - change the bread for another varied look. Here is a great place to buy cookie cutters: Copper Gifts

Photo courtesy of: Family Fun Friday

Shark Bite Surf Board - How cute would your tablescape be with two of these babies flanking the sides?! Or, hang it on the wall above the table. And what a perfect prop for pictures of the birthday boy and all of his friends.

Shark Tooth Necklaces - Don't worry my friends... these are not REAL shark teeth! But if you'd like those, you can certainly get them... LOL! Growing up on the beach, shark tooth necklaces are something that remind me of childhood... strolling through Pat Magee's Surf Shop in Port Aransas in my bathing suit and a spray painted t-shirt... haha... those were the days, LOL... and for those of you that know me in real life... you know I loathe the beach, ha! These necklaces would be perfect in goodie bags or out on the table with sun glasses and sun tan lotion for all your guests to enjoy.

Photo courtesy of: My Party Planner

Boardshort Cookies - Planning a party with a theme like surfing is so great because there are so many other themes and ideas you can incorporate into the details. Like the sharks above, boardshorts are a surfing must-have. You could totally use my Best Ever Sugar Cookie Recipe and this shorts cookie cutter from above mentioned Copper Gifts.

Surf Board Cake - I found quite a few cakes when looking for planning ideas, but this one stuck out because of it's craftsmanship. Everything about this cake looks professional to me and I love the graham cracker crumb sand! You can totally personalize this cake to better fit your colors. I love the designs on the boards themselves and the lifesaver. You could even add a few shark fins to the water down there to add to the cake.

Surf Shop Invitation - 4 words... WOOD.GRAIN.STATION.WAGON! So cute!!! You can easily buy these invitations through etsy.com. Pink Pickle also offers matching cupcake toppers, address labels, thank you cards, note cards, bag toppers, gift tags, stickers, labels and more. One stop shop!!

Photo courtesy of: Pink Pickle Studios

Shark Fin Cupcakes - ♪Duh nuh... duh nuh... duh nuh, duh nuh, duh nuh...♫ AHHHHH!!! These cupcakes are SO cute!!! So cute and I bet so delicious as well, ha... Oh, can you imagine biting into these made with red velvet cake?! HAHA... ok, sorry... I'll save my macabre ideas for later! So, you could also dye a white cake with blue food color and have a continuation of the water theme. I love the icing style on these cupcakes... so perfect for this party theme. You could also use blue and white striped cupcake liners such as these from The Bakers Confections.

Photo courtesy of: Kara's Party Ideas

Shark Infested Waters (Jell-O) - This was one of the first ideas I saw that made me fall in love with this theme! I want to do these just to do them, they are adorable!!! I love things that are already put together... make the jello, pour it into these cute little cups, add a shark and a sppon, refrigerate and viola! You have just made one of the biggest hits of your party!! And to tell you the truth... I don't even like Jell-O... but I am gaga over these. And how easy are they?! You could make these the night before and not even touch them again until time to set them out. You could even make a small "Danger! Sharks present!" sign to have near them.

Photo courtesy of: Amy Atlas Events

Surf Report - This has to be one of the most "duh!" moments of this entire board... have a chalk board or an easel in the playroom?! Then this is a must! Even if you don't, this could easily be applied to a poster board. And don't worry if you're not an artist... you can do this easily!

Photo courtesy of: Kara's Party Ideas

Keep Calm and Surf On - Well, you all know about my Keep Calm obsession, as reported here, so when I saw this it was a must have on this board! This sign comes in many colors and is so easy to print and place in a rustic wood or a distressed white frame, place on the table and keep moving! You can buy this image from etsy.com.

Photo courtesy of: Keep Calm Shop

Soda Pop - Orange Crush is perfect for this party! But really, you could use any drink found in these old fashioned bottles. My biggest ♥ in this picture... can you guess it?? The paper straws!! I'm a huge paper straw fan, as you found out from the last board. I also love that you could easily customize these with your own labels. And make sure those boys throw these bottles in the recycling bin... you can wash these and save them for your next party for sure!

Photo courtesy of: Green Wedding Shoes

Surfboard Garland - Totally cute but totally for a boy at the same time! I imagine moms of boys have a hard time when it comes to party planning... you want to use your creativity to the max, but you can't get too girly, which can be easy to do and therefore you need MORE creativity to walk this fine line! This is really cute and so easy to make... Print a ton of surfboard images on the computer and cut them out, string them on some twine and hang... it's that simple! If you want to get a little more advanced, you could customize the boards with names, dates, phrases... you name it! You can also buy this exact garland on etsy.com as well.

If you are seriously contemplating a Surf's Up theme party, I would really suggest that you spend some time looking at these two parties:

Kara's Party Ideas - Retro Surf Party

Amy Atlas Events - Surf's Up Guest Dessert Feature

The details in these events are endless and there are so many more ideas than what I could fit onto one board.

Now, I have a question for you... with these boards, would you like me to give you an individual picture of each item with it's description?? So you'd have the board all together as it is now and then also each individual picture for better viewing? Or is it fine like it is? YOU TELL ME!! This is for YOU!!!

Surf's Up my friends!

Party Inspiration Board: Pink and Green Princess (Girl Birthday)

This is the beginning of a new chapter of my blog... party planning inspiration boards! I LOVE LOVE LOVE party planning but I only have occasion to plan 2 times a year and not near the budget to decorate as I wish! I often wonder how different my wedding would be if I knew then what I know now...?! *Ahhhh....* pipe dream! Not getting married again... just having a wedding again, to my already husband.

I posted a question on my Facebook Fan Page asking what type of party people would like to see done and girl birthday was the winner... with a whopping TWO votes :/ - but the winner, nonetheless.

I'm not sure how often I will bring these to you, I put lots of research into this to get the best ideas and make sure I had the correct crediting - none of these are my photos, so it is most important to give credit where credit is due.

So, without further ado... I present to you:

Pink and Green Princess Party Inspiration Board

I just love each and every aspect of this board. I tried to bring you a little of everything you'd need: a cake, invitations, an outfit, food and decor. Let's dive in...!

From the top:

Paper Lanterns - Paper Lanterns are a very current must have for any party! You can decorate the inside of a large tent, the inside of your living room, your patio... any area benefits from these gorgeous lanterns. Todays lanterns are light by small lights and can be battery operated. They are very affordable and come in an unbelievable array of colors, textures and sizes.

Picture courtesy of: The Yuppie Files

Floral Monogram - This took my breath away! I only used half of the picture, wait until you see the rest! Floral monograms are so popular right now, and with due cause - they are gorg! I hadn't really seen these until just before Reagan's 3rd party and you can bet there will be a floral monogram at a party of mine very soon! They are so beautiful and a great DIY for anybody from an experienced crafter to a crafting newbie. And the possibilities are endless... any letter, any flower, and color... I even saw some done in rosemary - can you imagine the smell?! Ahhh... oh, what about lavender... yeah, gotta keep moving now! Envisioning a lavender "S" and wishing I were at the spa!

Picture courtesy of: Ashleigh Taylor Blog
You can also find a DIY Tutorial at: Bridal Buds

Macarons - If you've not seen these lovely confections popping up in every color of the rainbow and beyond, then you've been under a rock! Macarons are a sweet confectionery cookie made similarly to a meringue. They are usually filled with buttercream icing or jam. They are simply gorgeous, understated and while I've never personally made them... I've seen recipes that make them seem a lot less intimidating!

Picture courtesy of: I Do Inspiration

Flowers - Pink and green are lovely colors and very plentiful in the flower world. You can do anything from roses to peonies to carnations... even hydrangea come in both colors. What struck me most about this particular arrangement was the use of paper. The vase is covered by a pink subtly striped paper and they used tissue paper to surround the plants. From a cost perspective, these flowers are easy to find and inexpensive. You can get everything from the stargazer lily to the bush roses at your local supermarket and if you've never learned how to properly arrange flowers, take some time learn it! It is soooooooo worth it! I have no idea until a great friend of mine who had the knowledge took the time to give me tips and tell me how to make an arrangement look great. I still can't make them look like the pros did it, but it's so much better than what it used to be!! And ribbon is a must have for any arrangement, but do yourself a favor, and skip the traditional florist ribbon, it's just not that cute! Get creative with the ribbon ladies!

Straws - Paper straws are a retro fit for every party - from elegant to rockin' - it's a must have for your next event. They were such a huge trend in 2010 and they have continued to show their presence in 2011. You can find MANY great retailers, but some of the best are from Etsy.com. You can leave your straws as they are, tie a pretty ribbon on them, give them a flag or a tag. You can use straws for drinks (who would have thought that?!), you can use them for cake pops or marshmallow pops and they are such a neat trend, you can even package them as favors. Obviously, paper is biodegradable and healthy for the planet - but a word to the wise... if you've not used a paper straw before... don't expect your lips to know what you're doing to them! It's an odd feeling, that's for sure!

Water Bottle Labels - Where have these been my whole life?! Custom water bottle labels are the easiest addition to your party and TOTALLY DIY! Sure you can send them off and have them printed (by companies such as Bottle Your Brand) but you can totally make these at home, all by your awesome self! For Reagan's birthday party, I made bottle labels with purchased labels from Online Labels and then created the image and printed them right here at home. A friend of mine, whose little girl had her super cool 1st birthday party the same weekend, made her labels by printing them onto regular paper, then using contact paper to basically laminate them. Attach and viola! Your very own custom labels. I would suggest using some type of lamination though as the ink did begin to fade throughout the day.

Party Stationary & Stickers - Circle labels are the cutest way to spruce up anything for your party from your invitation envelopes to your goodie bags. You can use them to bind napkins around your utensils, on the bottom of your cupcake liners for an added touch and did I mention they are GREAT for you invites?! Just getting that in there again...!

Cookies - The next best thing in cookie decorating is disco dust! Have you seen this?! Heard about it?! It is amazing... I actually just bought some today.... It really is glitter... but totally edible and it has no caloric content, so don't worry about your thighs! Disco Dust is made in every color imaginable and retails pretty inexpensively. I'm about to do a project with it myself, so I will post pictures! Cookies are a great treat for any occasion and they are truly not hard to do. My sugar cookie recipe is so easy and you can decorate them days in advance. The recipe stays fresh for over a MONTH! Now, we usually eat them the day of, because they are just THAT good, but you can keep them a long time. Cookies also make lovely party favors.

Pink Sorbet - I think the most amazing thing about this item is the sheer beauty through simplicity. It is one scoop of pink sorbet with a spring of mint served in a martini glass. Obviously, if you're planning a child's party you won't want to use glass especially not a martini glass, ha! You may also not want the mint leaves, depending on the age, but you could easily make this appropriate for your party. Small plastic punch cups would be a perfect substitute and you could use any flavor of sorbet, ice cream or gelato.

Balloons - OK, wow! This is such a simple and amazing idea!! I've NEVER seen this done before but it is absolutely stunning. And for all my photog friends, can you imagine the gloriousness of this and a child running around?! I have to say I'm not sure how they anchored them, but I am willing to try anything to do this! I love balloons and while they are a fading trend, sometimes they get a good boost - this is one of those times!

Cake - Obviously, cake is a must have for any party - but have you noticed the trend of cakes going to "above and beyond" status?! When Reagan turned 1, I wanted a 2 tier cake. Hello money tree!! Once you add a second tier, you go to by the slice pricing and it's NOT cheap! I invested in a few tools and decided I'd make it myself! It wasn't perfect, but for it being the first cake I EVER decorated... it was awesome! So, you can attempt to make the cake yourself, you can hire a pro bakery or you can find a baker that works out of their home. If you want THIS cake... you probably want to hire, LOL. So about this particular cake... how gorgeous is this?! The minute I saw this cake, I knew where I was headed with the entire board. I shaped this board around this cake and it deserves every second of its fame! It is definitely fit for a princess.

Cupcakes - Mini Cupcakes are so easy to pop in your mouth, so delicious and let's face it... ADORABLE!! You need a mini muffin pan, some mini muffin liners and the will to sit and frost all of them!! How is that not a win/win?! :0) Plus, cupcakes on a stand = cute, but mini cupcakes on a stand = OVER THE TOP CUTE!!! And you can please everybody with tons of cake flavors.

Tableware - Paper vs. plastic vs. real is a common struggle during party planning, but again - it all goes toward your target audience. You don't want to break out your fine china for your sons 2nd birthday... but you don't really want to bring on the Chinet for a black tie wedding. Sometimes it's easy to know what to use, others it's a more difficult decision. I believe in paper. When Kyle and I married, I REFUSED - to much criticism - to register for China. I was told that it was not advisable to leave China off the registry and that I'd eventually regret it. Nope. Five years later, I still don't regret it. Kyle and I didn't start out with a lot, so the gifts we got for our wedding were what we had! If I'd registered for expensive China, we wouldn't have received many of the everyday, practical use items that we were gifted. It's not for every couple, but I highly recommend to couples like us that you just go ahead and leave it off the list. Plus, when are you going to REALLY use it?! When you're older, right? Why not ask for it from you hubby and kids when you hit a major milestone anniversary - give it a different sentiment. So... moving on from that - how PERFECT are these plates for this party theme?! LOVE them!!

Invitation - The invitations for any event sets the tone for the entire party. It gives your guests an idea of what to expect for the party - how fancy the party will be, if they need to break out the beach towels, wear heels or flippies, etc. You don't even have to say all of that or any of that for people to determine many things about your event. If you're planning a whimsical party, you don't want to send a dull invitation. Make sure your invites match your theme, your style and embodies your vision for the party.
